TitelGeneral shape of the optic disc in high myopic glaucomatous patients undergoing trabeculectomy.
DoelTo present three cases of myopic patients with sustainable changes in the general shape of the optic nerve head in addition to the glaucomatous cup reversal after trabeculectomy.
MethodesRetrospective single center observational case series.
ResultatenWe develop the clinical history and the examination findings of three myopic patients presenting a significant change of their optic nerve head shape after trabeculectomy. The initial horizontal-axed shape of the disc gained a considerable vertical component that persists several years after the surgery. Concomitantly, their visual function improved. The change of the shape is attributed to the important reduction of the pressure on the scleral canal and the lamina cribrosa as well as to biomechanical properties of these myopic eyes. The stability of the change is thought to result from the stable post-operative pressure over years.
ConclusieThe shape of the optic disc might represent a biomarker of the forces acting on the eye of myopic glaucomatous patients. We suggest setting a new baseline of stereo pictures and optic disc imaging after trabeculectomy.
