Basic

Although new technologies such as anterior segment OCT, specular microscopy, confocal microscopy, etc. help in diagnosing different pathologies, the slit-lamp biomicroscope is still the most important instrument in the daily ophthalmic practice. We use this instrument on a daily basis, but how well do we know all its features? This ICC is intended to give an overview of the different ways of using the slit-lamp biomicroscope beyond what is standard procedure. Techniques of examination by direct and indirect illumination, retro-illumination, sclero-corneal scatter, specular reflection will be explained and illustrated by pictures and practical tips will be given.
