TitleThe accuracy of applanation tonometry and dynamic contour tonometry: a comparison in LASIK patients
Abstract Nr.A2047
PurposeTo assess the performance of the PASCAL Dynamic Contour Tonometer (DCT) by comparing it with the Non Contact Tonometer (NCT) in Lasik patients ( myopic and hyperopic) before and 6 weeks after the intervention. Lasik changes not only the CCT but also the hysteresis of the cornea.
MethodsIn a private practice intra ocular pressure was measured in 100 eyes before and 6 weeks after lasik using NCT and DCT. Central corneal thickness was also measured on the same moment using an electronic contact pachymeter.
ResultsAfter myopic lasik the reduction in CCT ranged from -10 to - 185 micron ( median - 87 micron). The NCT dropped from -1 to - 10 mm Hg ( median - 6 mm Hg). The DCT changed from -4 to +5 mm Hg ( median -0.5 ).The observed drop in NCT was not directly proportional to the change in CCT. The preoperative and postoperative DCT measurements did not differ significantly.
ConclusionStructure of the cornea appears to influence NCT measurement but not DCT measurement. DCT suits better than NCT for monitoring IOP in post lasik eyes.
