TitleSystane satisfaction survey: the results
Abstract Nr.P017
PurposeThe Systane Satisfaction Survey has been initiated by Alcon and was conducted on a large sample of patients reporting symptoms associated with dry feeling eyes. The aim of this study was to determine the average posology and satisfaction rate (comparative or non-comparative) of Systane in these patients.
MethodsPatients where requested to answer 4 questions:
1) How many times a day do you instill Systane in your eyes?
2) Did Systane solve your ocular discomfort problem?
3) Do you consider Systane as superior to previously used products?
4) Do you intend to continue the use of Systane in the future?
The reply cards were collected, judged on their validity and classified.
ResultsA total of 1256 reply cards were received between November 2003 and September 2004. From those 1256 cards, 134 cards were excluded due to incorrectly or incompletely filled out by the patients so the results were analyzed among the 1122 Systane users. The results showed that a majority (90%) of patients could be treated effectively with Systane. It also showed that Systane could be considered superior to other available products in 64% of the cases and offers some advantage in 25% of patients. Consequently, Systane may be considered superior or equal in 89% of the patients. Furthermore, 82% of the Systane users do not need more than 3 instillations a day, 47% use Systane at the most 2 times a day.
ConclusionSystane may be considered as an advance in the management of symptoms associated with dry feeling eyes. This is reflected by the fact 91% of the Systane users preferred to continue the use of Systane.
