TitleClinical experience with the Acrysof RESTOR multifocal lens: One year later
Abstract Nr.A1060
PurposeTo describe the characteristics and the clinical results of a new acrylic diffractive multifocal intraocular lens (IOL).
MethodsIn this single-surgeon prospective clinical trial, eyes from eligible patients underwent phacoemulsification with implantation of the Acrysof Restor lens. IOL power calculations were performed by contact A-scan biometry and SRKT formula. Uncorrected (UCVA) and best spectacle corrected visual acuities (BCVA) were measured for each eye at 0.4 and 5 meters, under photopic conditions. Dependence on spectacles, occurrence of dysphotopsia and satisfaction scores were also recorded.
ResultsFifty eyes (twenty six patients) were included in the study, with a mean follow-up of 6.2 (+-2.4) months. Distance UCVA and BCVA of 20/20 were obtained respectively by 84% and 92 % of eyes. Near UCVA and BCVA of Snellen 1.4 were obtained by 84% and 100 % of eyes. All patients were spectacle free for near visual activities. The incidence of dysphotopsia was 13%. Ninety three percent of the patients rated their overall satisfaction as equal or superior to 8/10.
ConclusionResults suggest that this new diffractive multifocal IOL provides excellent uncorrected near and distance vision with a low incidence of dysphotopsia.
