PurposeTo report a cataract extraction with foldable lens implants in a juvenile Bonobo from the Democratic Republic of Congo
MethodsA case report
Resultsa 7-year-old male, captive Bonobo, named Kipolo, was examined because of history of decreased vision. On slit-lamp examination bilateral cataract was found. The cataracts were surgically removed and foldable intraocular lenses were implanted. There were no intraoperative or postoperative complications. After 10 months postoperatively, Kipolo is doing well and his vision is restored; he is sexually active and integrated in the groups of Bonobo.
ConclusionThis is a rare case of bilateral cataract extraction with foldable lens implants in a Bonobo, a monkey.
