TitreMerkel Cell Carcinoma of the Eyelid – An update
Abstract Nr.2034
ButTo describe the clinical symptoms, therapy and results of the treatment of patients with a Merkel Cel carcinoma of the eyelid. As this tumor as in general a very bad survival, an early detection and recognition of this tumor is necessary.
MéthodesRetrospective study.
RésultatsIn 5 patients a Merkel cell carcinoma of the eyelid was diagnosed (one male, four female). All patients were treated with local excision and reconstruction of the eyelid. No adjuvant irradiation was applied, as the tumors were totally resected. None of the patients developed a metastasis.
ConclusionIn general, Merkel cell carcinoma has a very high mortality, when tumors are larger than 2cm (mostly lung-, liver- and bone metastases). In none of the ocular MCC patients, distant metastases were formed, probably through early detection of a relatively small tumor.
