Titel | Myopisation in a case of bilateral acute transillumination of the iris |
Abstract Nr. | 2038 |
Doel | To report a case of bilateral acute iris transillumination (BAIT) with transient myopisation following systemic moxifloxacin |
Methodes | medical records and clinical photographs |
Resultaten | a 41-year-old-woman presented with acute bilateral pain, photophobia and blurred vision for 1 week. The patient had sinusitis 15 days prior to the onset of ocular symptoms and was treated by systemic moxifloxacin. Clinical examination disclosed heavy and diffuse endothelial pigmented deposits, pigment dispersion into anterior chamber, diffuse iris transillumination, posterior synechiae with distorted pupils, trabecular meshwork pigment dusting and hypertension in both eyes as well as transient myopisation during the follow-up. The patient recevied topical steroids and hypotensive drops. The pigment dispersion and the myopisation resolved. Visual acuity recovered but photophobia is still present. |
Conclusie | BAIT characterized by pigment dispersion, iris transillumination and ocular hypertension is an entity well reported in the literature; the relation with the use of systemic moxifloxacin is still to be clarified. In our case, a transient myopisation occured. The course of the disease was favorable with symptomatic treatment. |
