TitelTime will tell: Risk for second contralateral DCR in the future
Abstract Nr.1049
DoelTo investigate retrospectively a population of patients that underwent a dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) for nasolacrimal duct obstruction between 2002 and 2010 the percentage of bilateral operations, and evaluate the time-lapse between the first DCR and the second contralateral DCR, both in primary and secondary nasal duct obstruction.
Methodesretrospective study, with evaluation of status and questionnaire for general practitioners.
Resultaten794 DCR patients were identified of which 704 with a primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (PANDO) and 90 secondary nasolacrimal duct obstructions (SANDO). Most secondary obstructions occurred after nasal operationos (n= 43) or in trauma patients (n=22). Of the 704 PANDO patients 146 (20.5%) were operated bilateraly at presentation. Of the 557 unilateraly operated patients, 74 were operated on the contralateral side, with a mean time between the sides of 8 years (range 6 months and 46 years). Of the 90 SANDO patients, 9 were operated on the contralateral side in a second procedure.
ConclusieIn 13% of patients with a PANDO that were operated unilateraly, an obstruction occurred within 8 years after the first operation. Contralateral nasolacrimal duct obstructions can occur very late, up to 46 years after the first operation.
