TitleCumulative Nd:YAG rate after bag-in-the-lens implantation
PurposeTo study the cumulative Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy rate after bag-in-the-lens implantation in 120 eyes, compared to the lens-in-the-bag IOL implantation of the same IOL biomaterial.
Methods120 patients (16 children under 18 years and 104 adults) were implanted with the bag-in-the-lens during the period between December 1999 and August 2004. The post-operative follow-up ranged between 60 months and 2 months. 120 patients of the same age group were implanted with the lens-in-the-bag. Because both IOLs are manufactured of the same biomaterial, this comparison is focused to study the biocompatibility of the IOL with respect to the capsular bag.
ResultsThe cumulative Nd:YAG laser after bag-in-the-lens implantation was 0 %. Compared with other IOLs this is an unexpected result.
