TitleOculentis M-plus: a new concept of multifocal intraocular lens technology: 6 months results
PurposeClinical evaluation of a new intraocular lens (IOL) with an innovative multifocal optic design and near addition of +3.0 D up to 6 months after surgery.
MethodsThe Oculentis M-plus IOL was implanted in 50 eyes of 25 patients with a mean age of 67.1 ± 6.7 years. This IOL is a single piece, multifocal acrylic lens with a distinct near sector in the lower IOL segment. Six months after surgery, functional results, defocus curves as well as contrast sensitivity were evaluated.
ResultsMean implanted IOL sphere was 21.1 ± 1.4 D. Six months postoperatively, mean spherical equivalent was -0.22 ± 0.75 D resulting in a BCDVA of 0.09 ± 0.09 logMAR. The UCNVA was 0.22 ± 0.20 logMAR, DCNVA was 0.24 ± 0.20 logMAR and BCNVA was 0.1 ± 0.1 logMAR with 0.82 ± 0.77 D near addition in average. The defocus curve showed clearly two peaks at 0 and about -2.5 D which are explained by the two foci. Halo and glare effects were rarely reported
ConclusionThis new innovative multifocal IOL concept showed very good and stable functional results as well as high patient satisfaction.
