TitleShort term visual and refractive outcomes of PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision.
PurposeThe purpose of this study was to report short term visual and refractive outcomes and the tolerance of LBV in hyperopic and myopic patients.
MethodsWe retrospectively collected visual and refractive data from 14 myopic and 34 hyperopic patients that suffered from presbyopia and were treated between May 2021 and August 2022 with LBV using the MEL 90 Zeiss excimer laser and the Zeiss Visumax femtosecond laser. Refractive data were analyzed and plotted in standard graphs for reporting outcomes in refractive surgery. An online survey was used to enquire complaints of anisometropia and the dependance on glasses.
ResultsA total of 48 patients were included in the study with a mean age of 54 years (range 43 – 65 years). At one day postoperative the difference between the induced spherical equivalent (SE) and the target SE was ≤0.5D in 82.3% and ≤1D in 100% of the hyperopic patients and ≤0.5D in 92.8% and ≤1D in 100% of the myopic patients. The uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDVA) on the first day postoperative was ≥20/20 for 76.1%, ≥20/22 for 81.0% and ≥20/25 for 90.5%. A survey showed that after treatment 89% of the patients did not longer need glasses for near, 76.5% not longer for distance and 64.7% not longer for both. Fifty-six percent of the patients never experienced dimness of vision and none did frequently. Sixty percent of the patients never experienced loss of depth perception , while 27% did occasionally but never severe.
ConclusionWe can conclude that PRESBYOND Laser Blended vision is a well-tolerated technique to treat presbyopia with hypermetropia or myopia. It results in good uncorrected distance visual acuity and is effective in terminating the need for reading glasses.
