| Title | Long term follow up of patients submitted to 20-gauge transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy |
| Abstract Nr. | 128 |
| Purpose | To report the long term follow up of patients submitted to a new technique for sutureless transconjunctival vitrectomy using 20-gauge trocars with valves. |
| Methods | Fifty eyes underwent transconjuctival sutureless vitrectomy with 20-gauge trocars with valves . We analysed the surgical time, tamponade and complications. Follow-up ranged from six to twelve months. |
| Results | No intraoperative complications were noted. No sutures were necessary. One patient presented hypotony, one developed hyphema, one patient had a vitreous hemorrhage. |
| Conclusion | Transconjunctival sutureless 20-gauge vitrectomy using trocars with valves appears to be an efficient and safe alternative for conventional vitrectomy. It offers advantages of 25 and 23-gauge systems with the confort of 20-gauge instruments. |
