Purposeto mention the initial symptoms of multiple sclerosis
Methodsby reviewing recent literature on this subject
Results• the initial symptoms of multiple sclerosis are:

~ Optic neuritis (unilateral)

~ Diplopia or oscillopsia (illusory visual motion) due to oculomotor disorder

~ Paresthesias, numbness or/and pain in to one or more areas innervated by the ramifications of the trigeminal nerve

~ Facial palsy (similar to an idiopathic Bell’s palsy)

~ Uveitis: most often of the granulomatous type, bilateral and located at the anterior or intermediate regions of the eye.
• symptoms may disappear after a few days or weeks
Conclusionophthalmologists should know these symptoms suggestive of

a demyelinating disease of the central nervous system.
