TitlePeroperative fluorescein angiography during pars plana vitrectomy
Abstract Nr.132
PurposeTo evaluate the technique, indications and safety of a routine fluorescein angiography (FA) procedure during three port pars plana vitrectomy.
MethodsDuring vitrectomy, fluorescein dye was injected intravenously by an anaesthesiologist in 5 patients. Appropriate filters were used in light source and microscope. A high frequency real time movie was digitally recorded, still images were deduced of this.
ResultsWhen performing vitreoretinal surgery, unexpected questions can rise concerning diagnosis and treatment. Since FA is a method of choice in diagnosis of retinal diseases, peroperative FA provides an opportunity to answer those questions. The risk of anaphylactic reactions is comparable with office based procedures.
ConclusionPeroperative FA delivers additional information concerning diagnosis and treatment during vitrectomy. Technique and indications will be discussed.
