| Title | Transcanalicular endoscopic DCR. Using two different endoscopes STORZ and KRASKY |
| Abstract Nr. | P22 |
| Purpose | Performing endoscopic trancanalicular DCR using 2 different endoscopes STORZ- Piffareti or KRASKY-Busse: Which gives the best results and why? |
| Methods | Patients presenting with epiphora, caused by stenosis were operated by means of an endoscope. Pre- and postoperatively all patients had a lacrimal duct irrigation with physiological serum. Most of the patients had a CT-scan of the lacrimal duct with the use of a contrast medium. 40 nasolacrimal duct obstructions of 22 patients were operated by the first technique ( 3 years follow-up 2004-2007). The solving of the obstruction is obtained by for and backward movements of the trepan with continuous irrigation. In the second technique 10 nasolacrimal duct obstructions of 5 patients underwent transcanicular DCR, using a microdrill to solve the obstruction ( 1 year follow-up 2006-2007). |
| Results | In the first technique success rate after 3 years follow-up depended on the site of the original stenosis and varied from 75% to 100%. In the second technique we had a 90% success rate after one year follow-up. |
| Conclusion | Both endoscopes have their advantages and disadvantages. The larger the part of the endoscope inserted into the lacrimal duct, the more damage, but to have a bi-compartment calibre for introducing not only the optic fiber but also the micro drill or other instruments makes the task easier. The endoscopy of the lacrimal duct forms an excellent, atraumatic, simple and inexpensive examination technique, but progress and further studies on these techniques are necessary. |
