Title | Transient vertical diplopia after treatment of the orbicularis muscle with botulinum toxine |
Purpose | To keep in mind the side effect of Botulinum toxin used more and more for aesthetic treatment. Facial injections to treat or reduce « crow’s feet » can send patients in emergency to the ophthalmologist. |
Methods | We report a clinical case of vertical transient diplopia after one session of Botulinum injection around the eyes performed by her dermatologist. We also repeat indications and characteristics of Botulinum Toxin. |
Results | Ophthalmologic evaluation revealed a hypertropic position of the right eye. Fresnel prisms were prescribed but never used because the spontaneous resolution of diplopia 3 weeks after. |
Conclusion | Botulinum injections are considered as a safe procedure to temporally reduce fine facials wrinkles. We should be aware that complications such as diplopia exist and can cause great discomfort. |
