Title | Clinical performance of Tecnis multifocal acrylic lens ZMA00 |
Abstract Nr. | 259 |
Purpose | To investigate best-corrected and uncorrected visual acuity, photic phenomena and independence of glasses with the acrylic version of the Tecnis multifocal lens. Optical bench data showed higher MTF-values compared to the silicone model. |
Methods | In a prospective study 20 patients were operated on both eyes (40 eyes). Three month after surgery uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity at far, intermediate and near distance ,C quant measurements ,as well as the incidence of halos and glare were recorded. Spectacle use and patient satisfaction were documented. |
Results | Tecnis ZMA00 showed excellent results in uncorrected distance(0.91) and near visual acuity(0.95). Intermediate vision(0.6) was sufficient for computer work and to operate cell phones. Overall spectacle independence was 94%. Halos occurred in 25% of the patients but only 1 patient was bothered by photic phenomena. Patient satisfaction was rated 9.3 on a scale from 0 (very unhappy) to 10 (very happy). |
Conclusion | Tecnis acrylic multifocal lens ZMA00 provides an at least similar visual performance as the silicone model. Spectacle independence is high and results in a high patient satisfaction. |
