| Titel | Conjunctival naevi : clinical features and therapeutic outcomes |
| Abstract Nr. | P05 |
| Doel | To study the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic outcomes of conjunctival naevi referred to our ocular oncology center. |
| Methodes | Retrospective non-randomized case series. Documented clinical features included age, sex, race, tumor location, tumor pigmentation, diameter, presence of intralesional cysts, intrinsic vasculature, and prominent feeder vessels. The reasons for surgical excision were recorded. |
| Resultaten | 255 lesions in 142 females and 113 males were included in this study. The mean age at the initial visit was 31 years (range, 1 to 90 years). Treatment approaches were observation in 180 patients (71 %) and surgical excision in 75 (29 %). Among those 75 patients, the reasons for surgical excision were patient’s cancerophobia in 34 cases (45 %), ocular irritation in 18 cases (24 %), cosmetic arguments in 9 cases (12 %), suspicious biomicroscopic features in 10 cases (11 %), and documented tumor growth in 8 cases (4% ). None of the excised lesions showed histopathological malignant features. Multivariate analysis showed that the clinical features statistically associated with surgical excision were the older age of the patient, intrinsic vasculature, prominent feeder vessels and corneal involvement. |
| Conclusie | In our series, conjunctival naevi in older patient, with dilated feeder vessels, prominent intrinsic vasculature and corneal involvement presented with a statistical higher risk of being surgically excised. |
