Titel | Laser treatment in uveitis |
Doel | Type of laser used in uveitis: laser flare-cell photometer, Argon, Krypton, YAG, cyclo-diode, excimer. Indications of laser in uveitis : 1. To evaluate the inflammation of the anterior chamber: laser flare-cell photometry to quantify intraocular inflammation. 2. To prevent complications of uveitis: to prevent retinal detachment in cases of retinal tear, retinal necroses ( herpes and CMV) or to prevent retinal neovasularization. 3. To treat complications of uveitis(= most frequent indication) - Panretinal photocoagulations (PRP) to treat retinal and optic disc neovasularization in retinal occlusive vasculitis. -PDT or krypton to treat macular and posterior choroid neovasculrarization (CNV) in choroiditis. -Iridotomy: in iris bombé but a surgical iridectomy is needed later in 60%. -Transscleral red cyclo-diode laser: to treat neovascular glaucoma in occlusive vasculitis or open angle therapy-resistant inflammatory glaucoma in adults (not in juvenile idiopathic uveitis). 4. To treat the uveitis itself: in rare cases of DUSN or in pars planitis. Complications of lasers in uveitis: They are usually well controlled inflammation. Very rare complications include phtysis bulbi and sympathetic ophthalmia in cyclo-diode. |
