TitelPresbyopic Lens Exchange Using Acrysof Restor Multifocal IOL
DoelOne hundred and twenty-five consecutive refractive candidate patients were implanted bilaterally with the bifocal Alcon Acrysof Restor intra-ocular lens (IOL)(SN60D3). Results were evaluated at 3 and 6 months. The optics of the lens are designed to restore near and distance vision.
MethodesTwo hundred and forty-nine eyes of 125 patients had implantation of the SN60D3 IOL in this prospective non-randomized clinical study. Mean age was 54.37 years (range 43-76 years). All eyes were evluated at 3 and 6 months. Patient selection included no other eye disease besides ametropia. Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA-D), uncorrected near visual acuity (UCVA-N), best corrected distance visual acuity (BCVA-D) and distance corrected near visual acuity (DCVA-N) were recorded.
ResultatenPost-operative UCVA-D was better than 20/30 at 3 and 6 months in 96% of eyes. UCVA-N was equal or better than J3 at 3 months in 93% and 98% achieved J3 or better at 6 months. Mean post-op refraction was +0.12D (range: -2.25 - +1.25D). BCVA-D was 20/25 or better in 96% at 3 and 6 months. DCVA-N was J2 or better in 92% at 3 months and in 98% at 6 months. Patient satisfaction was high (95%). Secundary phenomena will be discussed. In 30 eyes relaxing limbal incisions were performed to correct astigmatism at the time of surgery. Twenty patients (16%) needed an additional refractive procedure to correct residual ametropia.
ConclusieThree and 6 month data indicate that refractive lensexchange using the Acrysof Restor Apodized Diffractive IOL to correct ametropia and presbyopia is a safe procedure and provides good uncorrected near and distance visual acuity.
