TitreUse of local chemotherapy drops in conjunctival premalignant lesions
Abstract Nr.1058
ButTo investigate the results of chemotherapeutic (adjuvant) therapy in patients with a premalignant conjunctival tumor (melanosis or epithelial dysplasia)
MéthodesRetrospective study
RésultatsIn 7 patients with epithelial dysplasia and in 5 patients with conjunctival melanosis Mitomycin C 0.02% or 5-Fluoro-Uracil 1% drops were used. Drops were applied for 2 weeks, and the result was evaluated; in all but one patient a second cycle of 2 weeks (4 times a day) was applied. No recurrence was seen in the patients with epithelial dysplasia; in 2 patients with melanosis further therapy was necessary. Two patients stopped the therapy prematurely because of severe corneal pain.
ConclusionMMC and 5-FU are very effective treatments for premalignant conjunctival tumors. The therapies are well-tolerated. In patients with severe corneal pain, topical IFN alpha-2b may be a good alternative.
