TitelVisco-less cataractsurgery
DoelA technique is demonstrated in which incisions, continuous circular capsulorhexis and hydrodissection is done without the use of any visco-elastics.
MethodesTwo small incisions are created through which the different parts of the procedure can take place, maintaining a stable anterior chamber under continuous irrigation. Subsequent bimanual phaco-emulsification can be done through these micro-incisions. At the end of the procedure, an IOL can be inserted through the self-sealing incision under continuous irrigation.
ResultatenThe anterior chamber stays stable throughout the procedure. This new technique gives the advantage not to overfill the anterior chamber during hydrodissection, minimising the risk of floppy iris or inadvertant capsular rupture. Not using visco-elastics shortens the procedure as no visco-elastics have to be washed out at the end of the procedure, reducing the chance of post-operative intra-ocular pressure spikes. Costs of the procedure are also reduced in minimising the use of visco-elastics.
