| Titel | 25G vitrectomy for epiretinal membranes and vitreo-macular traction syndromes:6-months first results |
| Abstract Nr. | 180 |
| Doel | to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the 25G transconjunctival vitrectomy in the treatment of epimacular membranes and vitreo-macular traction syndromes |
| Methodes | in this prospective study dealing with a consecutive series of 38 eyes with an epimacular membrane or a vitreo-macular traction syndrome, either idiopathic or secondary, we recorded the visual acuity and intraocular pressure the day before surgery, at day 1, 8 and 6 months after surgery, duration of surgery, anterior chamber inflammation at day 1, complications peroperatively, at day 1, 8, and at 6 months |
| Resultaten | 23 eyes had a 6-month follow-up (60%). Mean preoperative, day 1, day 8 and 6-month distance visual acuities were 0.3, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.5, respectively. Mean preoperative and 6-month near visual acuities were P4 and P3, respectively. At day 1 and day 8, 14/38 eyes (31%) and 33/37 eyes ( 89%), respectively, had a distance visual acuity equal or superior to the preoperative visual acuity. At 6 months, 16/23 eyes (70%) had a distance visual acuity improvement of at least 2 lines. 13/23 eyes (57%) had a near visual acuity improvement of at least 2 levels. At day 1, 4/38 (10%) eyes had any inflammatory reaction. Mean preoperative and day 1 intraocular pressures were 16 and 11 mmHg, respectively. At day 1, 5/36 eyes (14%) had an intraocular pressure inferior to 10, but superior to 5 mmHg. Mean duration of surgery was 19 minutes (7 - 40’). Short-term complications were very few, and none were encountered afterwards |
| Conclusie | the 25G transconjunctival vitrectomy is a safe, effective, and convenient technique in the treatment of epimacular membranes and vitreo-macular traction syndromes |
