TitelAntiphospholipid Syndrome, Activated Protein C Resistance and Bilateral Papillitis: a case report
DoelTo report a case of bilateral panuveitis associated with thrombophilia and discuss the etiology
MethodesObservational single case report. Ophthalmic examination, Fluorescein Angiography, Optical Coherence Tomography and laboratory tests were performed.
ResultatenA 22 year-old man with a history of skin nodules and multiple superficial phlebitis associated with positive lupic anticoagulant and activated protein C resistance, for which he received heparin, complained of floaters in both eyes. Ophthalmic examination disclosed non-granulomatous non-hypertensive anterior chamber inflammation in both eyes, mild bilateral vitritis, and bilateral papillary oedema. Further loss of vision and worsening of papillary oedema under treatment by heparin and oral steroids motivated a more aggressive immunosuppression.
ConclusieIsolated thrombophilia can be associated with visual impairment and papillitis. However we presume Behçet’s disease to be the most probable causative agent in this case
