ButThe main cause of poor visual acuity (VA) in congenital optic pit is a serous macular detachment. Visual Field (VF) defects are also well known and are related to the pit location. We describe a rare cause of poor VA in a case of congenital Optic Nerve Head (ONH) pit
MéthodesA comprehensive ophthalmic examination including: VA, VF, fluoroangiography, and optical coherence tomography was performed to a 32 year-old woman with a history of poor Va of the left eye.
RésultatsHer best corrected VA was 6/18. VF by SITA standard 24-2 showed a coeco-central scotoma. The anterior segment appeared normal and the intraocular pressure by Goldmann aplanation tonometer was 7 mm Hg, with a pachymetry value of 512 μ. The fundus revealed a pit at the inferotemporal margin of the ONH which had a normal size. The papillo-macular reagion appeared dark. Fluorescein angiography showed hypofluorescence of the pit without any leakage.
Optical Coherence Tomography disclosed the typical aspect of optic disc pit with no sign of serous detachment. Also, was found a reduced RNFL in the temporal quadrant.
The right eye examination was normal.
The follow-up period is 2 years and the patient is stable.
ConclusionReduction of papillomacular bundle can lead to poor VA in congenital ONH pit.
