TitreClinical comparison of the SofPort Advanced Optic aspheric IOL and the Tecnis Z9000 aspheric IOL: a prospective controlled study
Abstract Nr.345
ButThis study was designed to compare the clinical performance of the aberration-free SofPort Advanced Optic (AO) aspheric intraocular lens (IOL) (Bausch & Lomb) with the Tecnis Z9000 aspheric IOL (AMO), which is designed to correct spherical aberrations.
MéthodesThis is a prospective, single-masked, randomised, study with intra-individual comparison of the two IOLs. 34 patients requiring bilateral cataract surgery have been assigned the SofPort AO or Tecnis Z9000 lens according to a randomisation sequence. Measured outcomes were:BCVA and UCVA at low (10%) and high (90%) contrast using LogMAR charts; depth of field; and high order aberrations. A patient preference questionnaire was completed.Three months follow up data were recorded.
RésultatsThree month data demonstrated similar high contrast BCVA for both lenses (SofPort AO:-0.03:Tecnis:-0.01). Low contrast results were also comparable for both lenses (SofPort AO:0.17;Tecnis:0.2). Slightly more HOAs occured with the SofPort AO lens. All lenses were perfectly well centred. There was no difference in depth of field between the two lenses (SofPort AO:-0.88D;Tecnis:-0.94D).Slightly lower levels of dysphotopsia were recorded with the SofPort AO.The patient questionnaire found excellent satisfaction rates with both lenses.Slightly more patients preferred the SofPort AO lens, although this is statistically not significant.
ConclusionBoth lenses provide excellent visual outcomes and equally excellent satisfaction rates. There is no evidence that the aberration correcting IOL (Tecnis) performs better than the aberration corrected IOL (SofPort AO).As we know that aberrations increase dramatically when the aberration correcting IOL is decentred, the use of this IOL should be considered only when a perfect centration can be guaranteed.
