TitreNew Akahoshi 1.1 phacoemulsification tip and one-chop phacoemulsification with Alcon Infinity to reduce ultrasound time and energy in cataract surgery
Abstract Nr.347
ButTo determine the effect on ultrasound time and energy of using a new Akahoshi 1.1 inverted phacoemulsification tip in cataract surgery.
MéthodesOne surgeon using the Alcon Infinity phacoemulsification machine performed cataract surgery by phaco one-chop technique using the OZil torsional handpieceand the 1.1 Akahoshi 30° inverted phaco tip.
RésultatsAn angled tip is needed to use the tortional power of the OZil system. Classical Kelman tip is not adapted for phaco one-chop technique. Until now, we used the non angled Microtip 45°. The angulation of the Akahoshi 1.1 flared phacoemulsification tip makes it possible to exploit the torsional movement of the OZil system and to reduce the quantity of ultrasounds necessary during phacoemulsification. Moreover its end of of 1.1 mm diameter increases vacuum and holding power compared to the traditional 0.9 mm diameter.
ConclusionPhaco one-chop technique is recognized as requiring low ultrasound time and energy. Combined with the Akahoshi tip, US can be drastically reduced during phacoemulsification.
