TitreAcrysof toric intraocular lens vs. Limbal relaxing incisions in cataract surgery with moderate astigmatism
Abstract Nr.343
ButTo describe our results with a new acrylic toric intraocular lens (IOL) in cataract with moderate pre-existing astigmatism. Our early experience with this IOL will be reported and compared with limbal relaxing incisions (LRI).
MéthodesIn this prospective study, consecutive eligible eyes planned for cataract surgery were included. Patient selection included cataracts in otherwise healthy eyes, and preoperative corneal astigmatism between 1 and 2.5 diopters. Eyes were allocated to undergo either implantation of Acrysof SN60 Toric IOL or implantation of Acrysof SN 60 IOL with adjunctive limbal relaxing incisions. Uncorrected (UCVA), best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BCVA), residual astigmatism and axis shift were recorded. Satisfaction of the patients and occurence of dysphotopsia were also recorded.
RésultatsTwenty nine eyes were included in the study (15 Acrysof Toric and 14 LRI’s). The mean follow-up was 5.7 (+-2) months. Median postoperative UCVA at one month was 0.8 (+-0.3) in the LRI group and 1.0 (+-0.3) in the toric IOL group. Median BCVA at one month was 0.9 (+-0.2) in the LRI group and 1.0 (+-0.2) in the Acrysof Toric Group. The mean manifest residual cylinder at one month was 0.5 D (+-0.4) in the LRI group and 0.5 D (+- 0.6) in the Acrysof Toric Group. At three months, the median manifest residual cylinder increased to 1.0 D (+-0.6) in the LRI group, but stay limited to 0.56 D (+- 0.6) in the Toric IOL Group.
ConclusionEarly results suggest that this new toric IOL enables efficient and stable postoperative reduction of astigmatism. Residual cylinder appeared similar with LRI and Acrysof Toric IOL at the one month follow-up, but LRI seemed to provide less stable results over time.
