Titre | Evaluation of Different Editions of the Hardy-Rand-Rittler Test in Congenital Colour Vision Deficiencies |
But | To compare the diagnostic value of 3 different versions of the Hardy-Rand-Rittler test (HRR) in congenital colour vision deficiencies (CCVD). |
Méthodes | A total of 120 individuals with CCVD were examined with 3 different versions of the HRR. Results obtained with the second American Optical version (AO2) of the HRR, were compared with those of the first and second editions by Richmond International (RI1 & RI2). All patients were diagnosed and classified by anomaloscopy. The breakdown was as follows: 65 deuteranomalous trichromats (DA), 23 deuteranopes (D), 22 protanomalous trichromats (PA) and 10 protanopes (P). |
Résultats | Screening plates correctly indicated a red-green deficiency (R/G) in virtually all D, PA and P patients, whereas in DA patients a R/G deficiency was picked up in 86, 89 and 95% of cases by the AO2, RI1 and RI2 HRR editions respectively. Results with the diagnostic plates were much more variable, with an overall correct indication of either the protan or deutan axis in 73.3, 41.7 and 88.3% of cases with the AO2, RI1 and RI2 HRR editions respectively. Individuals with PA were picked up least: AO2, RI1 and RI2 HRR editions correctly showed a protan axis in 59.1, 9.1 and 68.2% of cases respectively. |
Conclusion | The RI2 edition of the HRR allows a correct diagnosis to be made in a significantly higher number of CCVD patients than the RI1 and even the AO2 edition. |
