Titre | Acrysof Toric Intraocular Lens vs. Limbal Relaxing Incisions in Cataract Surgery: One Year Follow Up |
But | To describe our results with a new acrylic toric intraocular lens (IOL) in cataract with moderate pre-existing astigmatism. Our one year experience with this IOL will be reported and compared with limbal relaxing incisions (LRI). |
Méthodes | In this prospective study, consecutive eligible eyes planned for cataract surgery were included. Patient selection included cataracts in otherwise healthy eyes, and preoperative corneal astigmatism between 1 and 2.5 diopters. Eyes were allocated to undergo either implantation of Acrysof SN60 Toric IOL or implantation of Acrysof SN 60 IOL with adjunctive limbal relaxing incisions. Uncorrected (UCVA), best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), residual astigmatism and axis shift were recorded. Satisfaction of the patients and occurence of dysphotopsia were also recorded. |
Résultats | Fourty one eyes were included in the study (20 Acrysof Toric and 21 LRI’s). The mean follow-up was 12.4 (+-4) months. Mean postoperative UCVA at one month was 0.8 (+-0.3) in the LRI group and 1.0 (+-0.3) in the toric IOL group. The mean manifest residual cylinder at one month was 0.63 D (+-0.4) in the LRI group and 0.7 D (+- 0.6) in the Acrysof Toric Group. At three months, the mean manifest residual cylinder increased to 1.0 D (+-0.6) in the LRI group, but stayed to 0.56 D (+- 0.6) in the Toric IOL Group. Results at one year will be presented during the meeting. |
Conclusion | Results suggest that this new toric IOL enables efficient and stable postoperative reduction of astigmatism. Residual cylinder appeared similar with LRI and Acrysof Toric IOL at the one month follow-up, but LRI seemed to provide less stable results over time. |
