TitreUVA/riboflavin crosslinking as treatment for corneal melting
Abstract Nr.349
ButUVA/riboflavin crosslinking (CXL) is used in clinical practice to stabilise progressive keratoconus. Laboratory studies have shown that CXL increases the resistance of stromal tissue to enzymatic digestion. We will report on a case of corneal melting caused by ulcerative keratitis, that was treated by CXL
MéthodesA 70 year-old woman referred for severe infectious ulcerative keratitis, was given intensive treatment with fortified antibiotics. Nevertheless corneal melting developed especially in the inferior part of the cornea. CXL was performed to avoid imminent corneal perforation.
RésultatsThe treatment was successful: the corneal melting was stopped and the lesion cicatrised.

ConclusionCXL may be useful to treat cases of corneal melting due to stromal enzymatic digestion as caused in this case by an infectious agent. This may avoid so that eemergency keratoplasty
