| Titre | Personal Experience with Bimanual Phaco: Results of First 100 Cases |
| Abstract Nr. | 161 |
| But | To report the personal experience of the author with her first 100 cases of bimanual phaco. |
| Méthodes | The records of the first 100 bimanual cases of the author were reviewed. All patients underwent bimanual phaco surgery utilizing “Custom Control Software” on the B&L Millennium. U/S average, elapsed phaco time (EPT), absolute phaco time (APT), intraoperative complications and postoperative visual acuity at 3 weeks were recorded. |
| Résultats | Mean U/S average was 11.15%, mean EPT 14.92 seconds and mean APT 1.71 seconds. Intraoperative complications included conversion to coaxial phaco (3 cases), irisprolaps (4 cases), partial zonular dialysis (4 cases), capsular rupture without vitreous loss (1 case) and capsular rupture with vitreous loss (1 case). BCVA at 3 weeks was 20/40 or better in 99% of cases and 20/25 or better in 97% of cases. |
| Conclusion | The transition from coaxial to bimanual phaco surgery involves a definite learning curve. All complications occurred in the first 50 cases. Once the adequate incision size, appropriate instruments and optimum machine settings are defined, bimanual phaco becomes a safe and efficient technique, reflected in very low U/S average, APT and EPT. |
