TitreLasik with ultra-thin flaps using the new disposable MORIA 90 head for the M2 microkeratome
Abstract Nr.142
ButTo assess the results obtained in LASIK when cutting ultra-thin flaps by means of the new Moria 90 disposable head for the M2 microkeratome.
MéthodesProspective study on 200 eyes that underwent bilateral simultaneous LASIK using the WaveLight Allegretto Wave EYE-Q 400 Excimer under a ultra-thin flap cut by means of the new Moria 90 disposable head for the M2 microkeratome. In all cases speed 2 was chosen. The pre-operative data that were taken into account are: keratometry, pachymetry, BCVA, refraction and WTW measurement. The surgical data are: per-operative pachymetry of the full cornea (CT) and of the stromal bed before treatment (SB), the diameter of the flap, the quality of the stroma after the cut. Post-operatively a follow-up was made of the quality of the flap, the BCVA and the refraction 2 months after the LASIK.
RésultatsThe mean flap thickness (FT=CT-SB)) was 117.6 µ with a standard deviation from the mean of +/- 15 µ for the first eye and 113 µ (SD +/- 24 µ) for the second eye. Flap thickness was correlated with preoperative corneal thickness. The average flap diameter was 9.5 mm. The smoothness of the stromal bed was outstanding. The surgery was uneventful in 99 % of the cases. Post-operatively, we noted remarkably less microstriae than in a similar group of patients where the cut had been made by the non-disposable Moria 110 head. In analysing the visual results, the safety data were excellent.
ConclusionMaking thin flaps leaves more residual stroma for laser ablation and should contribute to a better stability of the cornea through the time. The new M2 Single Use 90 head achieves a very good level of predictability of flap thickness. The outstanding quality of the stromal bed and of the corneal flap results in an excellent visual outcome.
