| Titel | Use of Mitomycin C (MMC) in the treatment of primary acquired melanosis of the conjunctiva |
| Abstract Nr. | P08 |
| Doel | Follow-up of topical mitomycin C treatment of primary acquired melanosis (PAM) with atypia. |
| Methodes | Local management, complications and follow-up of 10 patients, treated with MMC 0.02% or 0.04% for PAM with atypia were evaluated. MMC was applicated for four weeks, four times daily. |
| Resultaten | After two cycli of MMC, melanosis disappeared in all patients. In four patients a progression to melanoma occured within the follow-up time of 54 months, which ended in an exenteration in one case. All patients developed keratoconjunctivitis during treatment, disappearing within 2 weeks after treatment. In one patient a slight sympblepharon developed after 2 cycli of MMC. |
| Conclusie | Mitomycin C has a value in the management of diffuse and long-standing melanosis with atypia, but can not prevent recurrences, nor the progression to melanoma. The treatment is well-tolerated with our treatment protocol. |
