TitlePoststreptococcal uveitis
Abstract Nr.139
PurposeThe role of streptoccocal infection as an etiological agent of uveitis remains uncertain. Here we describe a series of patients with suspected poststreptococcal uveitis.
MethodsRetrospective case series
ResultsFour consecutive cases were collected (two male and two female). All patients had either a sore throat, or an episode of pyrexia before the onset of uveitis and the titer of anti-streptococcal lysin O was raised. Uveitis was bilateral in all the cases and recurrent in only one. In two patients, inflammation was limited to the anterior segment and in one, stronger in the vitreous. One patient presented with typical feature of AMPPE. The two cases with anterior uveitis were treated only topically and the two others received systemic steroids. No systemic antibiotic were given.
ConclusionUveitis following an episode of streptococcal infection could be immune mediated, like the other manifestations of poststreptococcal syndrome.
