TitleClosure rate of macular hole day 1 with silicone oil tamponade
Abstract Nr.133
PurposeTo evaluate the closure rate of macular hole day one with silicone oil tamponade.
MethodsFrom March 2007 until July 2007 idiopathic macular holes (n=18) were included in this study. Preoperative and day 1 postoperative SOCT Copernicus (Optopol Technology) was performed.
ResultsThe average width of the macular hole was 1257 microns (range 754-2143; SD 405). The functional closure rate at day 1 was 83.3% (U-type configuration). The average width of the anatomic closure of the hole was 287 microns (SD 66). None of the patients had a remnant of subretinal fluid. During the median follow up period of 3,5 months all macular holes were functionally closed (U-type configuration).
ConclusionSilicone oil tamponade with endodrainage of the macular hole has a successful functional closure rate within 24 hours.
