TitleHave imaging devices replaced optic disc stereophotographs?
Abstract Nr.112
PurposeOptic disc assessment is an important tool in the early detection of glaucoma and in the monitoring of the disease.
This presentation will evaluate the current guidance for optic disc imaging and the recent evidence to support the application of imaging technologies.
MethodsA literature search was performed and the levels of evidence assessed to support various techniques of optic disc imaging and the best tools to interpret the images.
ConclusionOptic nerve head photography is still a mainstay in evaluating glaucoma progression, although many technologies including scanning laser tomography (HRT), scanning laser polarimetry (GDx), and optical coherence tomography (OCT) offer more quantitative means to follow structural change. These modalities, in different ways, show promise in providing additional information regarding the diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma.
