TitlePatients’ response to Travalert® evaluation
PurposeTo describe patients’ response to Travalert® in clinical practice
MethodsTravalert® is a computerized bottle holder that reminds patients to instill their drops, assists in the administration of the drop, and records the dosing time for travoprost (Travatan™) or the travoprost/timolol fixed combination (Duotrav™), (Alcon, Inc., Fort Worth, TX). Patients with ocular hypertension or any type of glaucoma treated by Travatan® or Duotrav® were recruited when attending their follow-up visit.
Travalert® satisfaction questionnaire was filled in by the patients after a 4 week-period.

Results14 patients, 11 women ; age : 35-73 years. 86% of the patients used to dose their drops themselves ; For 86% of them, dosing adherence as recorded by Travalert® was >70%. 57% found it useful and 50% easy to manipulate. The audible alarm (93%) and the visual alarm (57%) were the 2 most favoured features of the dosing. Most of the patients (93%) indicated that they were "very relieved" that the doctor was able to monitor when they dosed their medication. 43% of the patients suggested that the audible alarm should be louder. The majority (86 %) indicated that they would like to continue using Travalert®.
ConclusionDespite the small sample of patients recruited in this study, Travalert® seemed to be well accepted and was considered an effective dosing aid and reminder by patients.
