Title

Cicatricial pemphigoid misleaded with an atopic dermatitis. A case report

Purpose	A case of cicatricial pemphigoid in a patient with bilateral chronic conjunctivitis associated with oral and cutaneous lesions is described. The previous diagnosis was an infected atopic dermatitis.
Methods	Ophthalmological, biological and immunopathological findings are described in a 70-year-old women.
Results	Slit lamp examination revealed a bilateral conjunctivitis, a small ulceration of the internal cantus of the right eye and punctal occlusion on both eyes. Smears performed on the eyelids and conjunctiva were negative. Circulating anti-basement membrane antibody and allergic tests on blood samples were negative as well. The conjunctival biopsy showed dermo-epidermic IG-G, IG-A and C3 linear and continuous deposits on immunofluorescent staining.
Conclusion	Cicatricial pemphigoid is a devastating disease leading to blindness in the absence of treatment. The diagnosis is mainly based on immunopathological findings. This case of conjunctivitis associated with skin disease of unknown etiology highlights the importance of biopsy.
