Title | FRO: Correlation between Visual Field Defects and Fitness to Drive in Glaucoma patients |
Purpose | It is often difficult to decide if glaucoma patients are fit to drive. An attempt will be made to develop an algorithm of test abnormalities that predicts as accurately as possible the outcome of a practical driving test. |
Methods | Data of 200 consecutive driving glaucoma patients recruited in the glaucoma clinics of Ghent and Leuven will be collected. Afterwards a standarised on the road driving test is performed by the patient. |
Results | A pilot study has been completed. The results of ten patients, five in Ghent and five in Leuven, are presented. |
Conclusion | Our study is the first that will correlate an ophthalmic examination with a test on the road. We hope that this study will enable us to elaborate a robust protocol to evaluate in daily ophthlamic practice which glaucoma patients are safe drivers. |
