TitleRetinoblastoma: diagnosis
Abstract Nr.201
PurposeRetinoblastoma is the most common primary malignant intraocular tumour in childhood. The diagnosis of retinoblastoma is initially made without histologic diagnosis.
We want to describe the clinical features and diagnostic imaging techniques and how to differentiate retinoblastoma from other entities.
MethodsLiterature review of clinical features of retinoblastoma and noninvasive imaging techniques and of entities which should be considered in the differential diagnosis of retinoblastoma.
ResultsOphthalmoscopic examination in combination with noninvasive techniques as ultrasonography and computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging are the preferred techniques in the diagnosis of retinoblastoma.
ConclusionIf ophthalmologists and neuroradiologists work close together, useful information can be obtained to make the diagnosis of retinoblastoma and to differentiate retinoblastoma from other entities.
