Title	AccoRing: does it work?
Abstract Nr.	149

Purpose	To present and evaluate an implant designed to maximize the pseudo-accommodation by forward move of the optic.
Methods	34 patients received the new implant, AccoRing, in 1 eye and a conventional implant in the fellow eye.Reading ability was assessed at 3 months in standard conditions of distance and illumination.
Results	The average spherical addition to read Parinaud 2 was 2.25 diopters with the conventional implant and 1.50 diopters with the AccoRing ( p < 0.005). In both groups there was a large dispersion of results, partly related to the age of the patients and also related to the spherical power of the intraocular lens.
Conclusion	Like other "accommodative" implants, AccoRing does permit a limited pseudo-accommodation. The post-operative ability to read without addition cannot be guaranteed. The addition needed for near vision is reduced by comparaison to classical monofocal implants.
