TitleVisual performance of a monofocal with extended depth of focus intraocular lens.
PurposeTo evaluate monocular and binocular visual performance of a new monofocal with extended depth of focus (EDoF) intraocular lens (IOL).
MethodsIn a prospective, non-randomized, single-armed, single-center, open-label study, we evaluate 30 eyes from 15 consecutive patients who received bilateral implantation of a monofocal EDoF IOL (EMV RAYNER) were included. We evaluated monocular and binocular best corrected distance visual acuity and uncorrected visual acuity. We measured monocular and binocular distance corrected and uncorrected intermediate and near visual acuity. Monocular defocus curve was also evaluated.
Results30 eyes from 15 consecutive patients were included. Mean subjective spherical equivalent was -0.43.
Binocular distance corrected visual acuity at distance (6m), intermediate (66 cm) and near (40cm) were -0.15 logMAR, 0.30 logMAR, 0.46 logMAR, respectively.
Monocular distance corrected visual acuity at distance, intermediate and near were -0.09 logMAR, 0.35 logMAR, 0.58 logMAR, respectively.
Binocular uncorrected visual acuity at distance, intermediate and near were -0.10 logMAR, 0.17 logMAR, 0.36 logMAR. Monocular uncorrected visual acuity at distance, intermediate and near were 0.02 logMAR, 0.27 logMAR, 0.49 logMAR, respectively.
Defocus Curve remained above 0.20 logMAR up to a defocus of -1.25 and above 0.5 logMAR up to a defocus of -2.
ConclusionThis monofocal EDoF IOL provides a good visual acuity and visual quality at far and intermediate distance with functional near visual acuity. Patients experienced a high satisfaction.
