TitleLaser trabeculosplasty, a literature review
PurposeThis review aims to assess the position of laser trabeculoplasty (LTP) in glaucoma management.
MethodsAn identical search was entered in PubMed, Embase and Cochrane. A total of 2530 articles were screened for selection according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Results A total of 35 articles were included. These studies were reviewed on the following topics: predictive factors, intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction, possibility, and effect of repeat LTP, duration of effect, different LTP settings, comparison of drops versus LTP as primary treatment and management after LTP. In addition, particular attention was paid to the LiGHT trial.
ConclusionLTP is an effective treatment option that can be used early in the management of glaucoma. To this day, 􏰂􏰃􏰄􏰅 selective laser trabeculoplasty 􏰆SLT􏰇 is the standard in LTP therapy. The patient’s profile 􏰆race, baseline IOP, type and severity of glaucoma, medication use, additive LTP treatments ...􏰇 and variations in LTP settings (type of laser, laser energy, degree of application ...􏰇 affect IOP reduction and duration of effect. Due to these variations, a general consensus is challenging to establish, and decisions should be made according to an individually determined patient-based approach.
