To teach skills necessary to perform phacoemulsification for residents with little or no experience with the method and those wishing to refine their technique.
We will spend half of the time for a slides and video presentation (slides in English- talk mainly in French) and the over half at lab stations on pig (cataracted ?) eyes. Each station for two students. The presentation will first cover the most important tips for operating on the anterior segment of a cataracted eye under microscope, then we'll learn the steps of phacoemulsification including scleral and corneal incisions, capsulorhexis, hydrodissection, hydrodelineation, Divide-and-Conquer universal technique, cortex removal and general considerations on IOL implantation.
A small comprehensive manual and a CD with the presentation and additional topics including anesthaesia , fluidics management and complicated cases will be provided.
